It would be better if you can also mention GEOS and PROJ4 project references, because I think the spatial analysis function and projection support in PostGIS would also be limited when both are missing.
This is exactly the article i needed to get my backside into learning postgis! thanks!
So what should we do about that, I think we use last version of Postgresql.
Have you seen AnyMap? http://www.anychart.com/products/anymap/overview/
It allows to build cost-effective solutions for geo data visualization very easy. And it works with any databases.
I think that I will look deeper into this matter now after reading this.

Well I read this article and I am totally confused. What is it about?
Tom you are welcome. We recently gave a PostGIS presentation too which you might find useful.
There were some other presentations as well. Simon Greener -- has them summarized here http://www.spatialdbadvisor.com/postgis_tips_tricks/130/fosslic-postgis-presentations/
Thanks for this. I think postgis may help the company I work for. I'm going to bring it up in our next meet.
PostGIS looks like a pretty powerful application. The article caught my eye as I currently work in an industry where we geo-locate sonars for diver / mammal tracking and with software like this we could take the user interactivity to the next level. The plans are to take the software 'online' in the next few years to allow remote access for it's users.
This articled has simply grabbed my attention since I am very interested in mammal tracking and the role it has to play in user interactivity. From what I have read, I believe the PostGIS is a good concept to introduce into the market. With the rising demand in use of geospatial analysis and mapping all over the world, PostGIS comes in handy since it has integrated IT infrastructure, engineering and general science. What I need to know is how to come across the PostGIS and how much it will cost and how long it will take to have it installed?
Depends what OS you are running how to get going with it. Its free to use for both private and commercial use.
Details here: http://www.postgis.org/download/ The newsgroup is very helpful and people usually respond to your questions within minutes - you can subscribe below: http://postgis.refractions.net/mailman/listinfo/postgis-users
